How Not to React When Your Child Tells You That He’s Gay (My Reaction)

Daniel, the boy in the clip I showed, has raised over 93,000 dollars. Overwhelmed, he has asked that if you still wish to donate, that you donate to, an organization that benefits homeless youth in crisis. See his original go fund me page here:

So I am a Christian and I fully support gay marriage and support the LGBTQ
community. I worked with many homeless youth like the young man in that
video. That story is so much more common than you think. Thanks for
addressing this! It is a tragedy that people can be so hateful in the name
    of Jesus.

I loved how delicate you were on this topic. I too have relatives who are
Gay and I love them no less! Good job on this video my Love!

As a Christian, I completely and utterly agree with you. There is
absolutely no excuse for treating someone poorly, regardless of the reason,
and as children of God, we should love all others. Also, I wanted to point
out that Leviticus was written as the old Jewish law and when Christ was
crucified, the law was nailed to his cross and it was declared dead to all
who follow him (this is why Christians don’t do sacrifices and such).
CHRIST never said anything about the LGBTQ+ community.

However, I would like to point out that it’s not only Christians doing
this. Many mass religions condemn their lifestyle, and I feel like the war
on homophobia is being fought ONLY against Christianity instead of against
the idea itself and the religions and cultures within which it manifests
itself. I completely agree that Christians are, by and large, the most
vocal group. But let’s not attack Christians and instead attack the
ridiculous idea of judging and condemning others based upon their sexuality.

Just a thought:) Loved this video and my heart goes out to this girl and
    the boy in the video!!!

I am a very religious person, a die-hard Christian, and I am in total
agreement with what you say. True Christians believe this, and those who
don’t really annoy me. Anyhow, I was just wondering if there was a reason
that you are not religious or if you simply don’t believe. God Bless and
please keep making amazing videos! I love you so much <3

I’m Christian and I’m gay. The reason religion does not support gay
marriage is because life was originally made to reproduce so you need male
and female. My theory is somewhere along the line a male and a male, or a
female and a female figured that they liked each other. About Leviticus,
it’s in the Old Testament so it’s not supposed to be taken literally. If
God is real then I can prove that nothing is wrong with homosexuality
because then why would it naturally exist?

I’m a strong Christian, and I love the LGBT community, and other Christians
who don’t support it piss me off.. Idk I feel like everyone should have to
privilege to do whatever they want. I really enjoyed this video 🙂

religion is posion of this world and i hope someday it will disappear
forever and there won’t be stupid people like this that attack their own
    children because of some “god”
i’m an atheist but my family is christian and they’re homophobic and
rasist, and it just hurts me that someone who claims there is a god can be
so full of hate simply because someone is different

That video clip almost made me cry, tbh. That was horrible. I am a Christan
and over half of my friends are gay. I don’t care what your religion is,
everyone needs to support anyone no matter their sexuality. It doesn’t
    define them.

I’m not very religious but I do know enough that Jesus loves everyone and
wants them to be happy. And for people who trash talk gay people, they need
to use empathy. How would they feel if someone said crap about them?

This sums up my thoughts on this to a tee… I don’t understand how people
can think being gay is wrong, but do all of the other things you mention in
this video. Also, There is a church in my home town that supports gay
marriage! They have a huge sign on the side of the church. Even though I’m
not gay or super religious, I think that it’s really neat that they support

This really hit home for me. I’m crying while I write this. I’m bisexual.
I’ve known I liked both girls and boys since I have memory. I remember
being as young as 7 and waking up in the night, because I would have dreams
about kissing my best friend, and calling her my ”girlfriend”. I remember
having small crushes on girls as well. I was born and am being raised in a
Christian family. I am out to my brother, a few close accepting friends,
I’m sure my mom knows, and the internet of course. They all accept me and
love me. It’s my dad I’ve struggled with, he doesn’t mind LGBT people. And
he can’t stand gay bashing. But still I’m afraid, I’m afraid he’ll turn on
me, He would never expect his ”perfect, sweet child” to be a ”dyke”, or
”queer”. I just don’t understand how God could hate me? He made me! If he
didn’t want me to be this way, why was I born? I should have never existed,
instead. I don’t want my dad to hate me, It would kill me to be detested by
one of the few people I truly love. But I’ve been hiding these feeling for
approximately 7 years. I don’t know if I can keep faking it. It took me 2
years, and a lot of nights crying myself to sleep to accept that this is
who I am. I can’t change. My sexuality doesn’t make me a bad person, I try
to be the best I can everyday. I try my best to be kind, to help others, to
be honest, humble, encourage, not lie, not be selfish, or jealous. And I
wish my dad could see that. It doesn’t change anything, this is who I’ve
always been, and at the end of the day I’m still his child. Me coming out,
would just make me a happier, healthier, better person. I hope he will
    accept me.

This made me cry that people cannot accept what they think is not “the
norm” “it is choice and you CAN control it” they were born like that just
the wat straight people were born straight . I heard a quite once that
said” we are all machines but some are wired differently” meaning that we
are all humans we all have feelings but some ppl are gay , black , white
,religious ,straight it doesn’t matter we should all be treated equally

I taught Sunday School & Children’s Church for almost three years. My three
best friends in the world are all gay, one of them will be standing in my
wedding ceremony at a church he is WELCOMED to. I will also be at his side
when he gets married himself. To anyone that uses their religion as an
excuse to discriminate, look down upon another human being or consider them
“lesser than”, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Christians can be open-minded and understanding. Everything you said is
completely spot-on Kendall, every time I get to the point in the video
where that clearly southern woman is verbally & physically abusing her son
I burst into tears. I’m from the south and this is the mentality of so many
people there. I know we will get to the place where anyone can love anyone
that they choose to. My parents, who have fairly conservative views and
both continue to work for the church, have both agreed to go to their first
Pride event with me this year. I have a lot of hope for our society, but
the time to move forward is now.
